Félix Fénéon

Félix Fénéon, born on June 22, 1861, was a prominent French journalist, translator, art critic, and writer who made significant contributions to the art world during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His passion for art and literature was matched only by his commitment to anarchist ideals, which influenced his perspectives and writings.

In 1886, Fénéon coined the term Neo-Impressionism, a label that would come to define a revolutionary group of artists led by the renowned Georges Seurat. His fervent advocacy for these artists helped to elevate their work and secure their place in the annals of art history.

Beyond his role as a critic, Fénéon also served as a gallery director, where he continued to promote innovative artistic movements. His influence extended beyond his lifetime, as evidenced by the establishment of the Fénéon Prize in 1949 by his wife, Fanny Goubaux, which was funded by the proceeds from the sale of his extensive art collection.
