Felix Gottwald

Felix Gottwald, born on January 13, 1976, is a distinguished Austrian Nordic combined skier whose athletic career spanned from 1994 to 2007, with a notable return in 2009. Standing at five feet ten inches and weighing one hundred fifty pounds, Gottwald made his Olympic debut at the tender age of eighteen during the 1994 Winter Olympics, competing in the 15 km individual event.

Throughout his illustrious career, Gottwald showcased his exceptional talent at multiple Olympic Games. He earned three bronze medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics in the 7.5 km sprint, 15 km individual, and 4 x 5 km team events. His performance peaked at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he claimed gold in both the 7.5 km sprint and the 4 x 5 km team competitions, alongside a silver in the 15 km individual event. With a total of seven Olympic medals, he stands as the most decorated Nordic combined skier in Olympic history.

In addition to his Olympic success, Gottwald topped the World Cup standings in 2001 and was a key member of the Austrian team that secured gold at the 2003 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. His prowess continued at the 2011 World Championships in Oslo, where he contributed to the team's victories in both the normal hill and large hill competitions. With eleven World Championship medals to his name, he is also recognized as the most decorated Nordic combined skier in this arena.

Gottwald's achievements extend to the Holmenkollen ski festival, where he triumphed in the Nordic combined events in 2001 and 2003, earning the prestigious Holmenkollen medal in 2003. After retiring at the conclusion of the 2006-07 World Cup season, he briefly transitioned to a role as a color commentator for an Austrian television network before returning to competition in 2009.
