Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Ferdinand Bie

Ferdinand Bie, born on February sixteenth, eighteen eighty-eight, was a distinguished Norwegian track and field athlete known for his remarkable achievements in athletics. He gained international recognition at the 1912 Summer Olympics held in Stockholm, where he showcased his exceptional talent by winning the silver medal in the pentathlon.

Initially, Bie's Olympic journey was marked by controversy when the gold medalist, Jim Thorpe, was disqualified for having participated in semi-professional baseball. Following this disqualification, Bie was declared the Olympic champion. However, he made the notable decision to refuse the gold medal from the International Olympic Committee, a testament to his integrity and sportsmanship.

Throughout his athletic career, Bie also competed in various events, including the long jump, where he finished eleventh, and the 110 meters hurdles and decathlon, although he did not complete those events. His prowess in athletics was further highlighted by his victories as the Norwegian champion in long jump in nineteen ten and nineteen seventeen, as well as in the 110 meters hurdles in nineteen ten.

In a twist of fate, the IOC reinstated Jim Thorpe as the rightful champion in nineteen eighty-two, yet Bie remained recognized as a co-champion until July fifteenth, twenty twenty-two, when Thorpe's gold medal was officially reinstated, relegating Bie to the status of silver medalist.
