Fidel Valdez Ramos, known affectionately as FVR and Eddie Ramos, was a distinguished Filipino general and politician who made significant contributions to the Philippines during his lifetime. Born on March 18, 1928, he rose through the ranks of the military to become the only career officer to achieve the prestigious rank of five-star general. His military career culminated in his role as the 12th president of the Philippines, a position he held from 1992 to 1998.

Ramos's ascent in the military began early, where he served as Chief of the Philippine Constabulary and later as Vice Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces under President Ferdinand Marcos. His pivotal role during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution marked a turning point in his career, as he chose to support the new government of President Corazon C. Aquino, earning him the admiration of many Filipinos.

Before his presidency, Ramos was instrumental in the Aquino administration, serving as chief-of-staff of the Armed Forces and later as Secretary of National Defense from 1986 to 1991.
