She made history by becoming Italy's first top-ten female singles player on August seventeenth, two thousand nine, and later achieved the remarkable feat of being the first Italian to reach the world No. 1 ranking in doubles on February twenty-eighth, two thousand eleven.

Throughout her illustrious career, Pennetta claimed Grand Slam titles in both singles and doubles. She triumphed at the 2011 Australian Open in women's doubles alongside Gisela Dulko and secured the 2015 US Open singles title, defeating her childhood friend Roberta Vinci in a historic all-Italian final.

In addition to her Grand Slam successes, Pennetta won ten other WTA singles titles, including a notable victory at the 2014 Indian Wells Open, where she overcame the top two seeds. A key player for the Italian Fed Cup team, she contributed to Italy's victories in four titles during the years two thousand six, two thousand nine, two thousand ten, and two thousand thirteen.

Her doubles career was equally impressive, highlighted by winning the 2010 WTA Finals with Dulko and finishing as a runner-up at the US Open in two thousand five and two thousand fourteen, partnering with Elena Dementieva and Martina Hingis, respectively.
