Fleetwood Mac, a legendary rock band formed in London in nineteen sixty-seven, was initially led by singer and guitarist Peter Green. The band's name is a fusion of the surnames of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, who joined shortly after its inception. Over the years, Fleetwood Mac has sold more than one hundred twenty million records globally, solidifying their status as one of the best-selling musical acts in history.

In their early years, Fleetwood Mac primarily embraced a British blues style, achieving significant success with their instrumental hit "Albatross," which topped the UK charts in nineteen sixty-eight. Other notable hits followed, including "Man of the World" and "Oh Well" in nineteen sixty-nine, and "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" in nineteen seventy. The departure of Green in May nineteen seventy marked a turning point, leading to the addition of Christine McVie, who joined as a vocalist and keyboardist shortly thereafter.

The band's lineup evolved significantly over the years, with key members such as Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, and Bob Welch contributing to their early sound. By the end of nineteen seventy-four, Fleetwood Mac faced a challenge as they were without a guitarist and male vocalist. This led Mick Fleetwood to discover the American duo Buckingham Nicks, resulting in the recruitment of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Their arrival transformed the band's sound, culminating in the release of their self-titled album in nineteen seventy-five, which reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

Their subsequent album, Rumours, released in nineteen seventy-seven, became a global phenomenon, winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in nineteen seventy-eight. Despite a stable lineup through three more studio albums, tensions arose by the late nineteen eighties, leading to Buckingham's departure in nineteen eighty-seven. The band saw various changes in membership, including a reunion for a performance at President Bill Clinton's inauguration in nineteen ninety-three and a full-scale reunion in nineteen ninety-seven, resulting in the live album The Dance.

Christine McVie left the band in nineteen ninety-eight but returned in twenty fourteen for their On With the Show Tour. Fleetwood Mac's final studio album, Say You Will, was released in two thousand three. Following Buckingham's firing in two thousand eighteen, the band welcomed Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. After the passing of Christine McVie in twenty twenty-two, Stevie Nicks expressed doubts about the band's future without her. Fleetwood Mac has received numerous accolades, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in nineteen seventy-nine, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in nineteen ninety-eight, and the MusiCares Person of the Year award in two thousand eighteen.
