Florence Bascom

Florence Bascom, born on July fourteenth, eighteen sixty-two, was a trailblazing American geologist and educator. She defied the norms of the nineteenth century by achieving remarkable academic success, earning two bachelor's degrees and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. In eighteen eighty-two, she received her Bachelor of Arts, followed by a Bachelor of Science in eighteen eighty-four, and completed her master's degree in geology in eighteen eighty-seven.

In eighteen ninety-three, Bascom made history as the second woman in the United States to earn a PhD in geology, becoming the first female graduate of Johns Hopkins University. Her groundbreaking achievements did not stop there; in eighteen ninety-six, she became the first woman to work for the United States Geological Survey, further solidifying her role as a pioneer in her field.
