Foday Sankoh

Foday Sankoh, born on October seventeenth, nineteen thirty-seven, was a prominent Sierra Leonean figure known for his multifaceted roles as a photographer, partisan, politician, and minister. He is most notably recognized as the founder and commander of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), a rebel group that played a significant role in the Sierra Leone Civil War.

The conflict, which erupted in nineteen ninety-one and lasted until two thousand two, was marked by extreme violence and turmoil. Under Sankoh's leadership, the RUF was supported by the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), led by Charles Taylor. This alliance contributed to the devastating impact of the war, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated fifty thousand individuals and displaced over five hundred thousand more into neighboring countries.
