He served as the leader of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana from nineteen sixty-four until his passing in nineteen eighty-five. His political journey began as the Premier of British Guiana from nineteen sixty-four to nineteen sixty-six, followed by his tenure as Prime Minister from nineteen sixty-four to nineteen eighty. In nineteen eighty, he became the first executive president of Guyana, marking a significant transition in the country's governance.
