Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Francine Niyonsaba

Francine Niyonsaba, born on May fifth, nineteen ninety-three, is a distinguished Burundian middle-distance runner renowned for her exceptional talent in athletics. Specializing initially in the 800 metres, she made a significant transition to longer distances in two thousand nineteen, showcasing her versatility and determination.

Niyonsaba's athletic prowess was highlighted during the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she earned a silver medal in the women's 800 metres, marking a historic achievement as the first Olympic medal for Burundi since nineteen ninety-six. Her remarkable performance continued at the 2017 World Championships, where she again secured a silver medal in the same event.

In addition to her Olympic success, Niyonsaba is a two-time world indoor champion in the 800 metres, triumphing in both two thousand sixteen and two thousand eighteen. After her shift to longer distances, she competed in the 10,000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing fifth and further establishing her reputation as a formidable athlete.

Setting records is a hallmark of Niyonsaba's career; she holds the African record in the 2000 metres with a time of five minutes and twenty-one point fifty-six seconds, achieved in two thousand twenty-one. This record stood as the world record until it was surpassed by Jessica Hull in two thousand twenty-four. Niyonsaba also boasts seven national records for Burundi.

However, her journey has not been without challenges. In two thousand nineteen, World Athletics announced that she would not be permitted to compete under the female classification in events ranging from four hundred metres to one mile due to regulations concerning XY DSD athletes with naturally high testosterone levels.
