Francis Arinze, born on November first, nineteen thirty-two, in Eziowelle, Anambra State, Nigeria, is a distinguished prelate of the Catholic Church. His extensive career includes serving as the Prefect of the Secretariat for Non-Christians from nineteen eighty-four to two thousand two, and later as the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments from two thousand two to two thousand eight.

Arinze's leadership roles within the Church are notable; he was the Archbishop of Onitsha from nineteen sixty-seven to nineteen eighty-five and held the position of president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria from nineteen seventy-nine to nineteen eighty-four. In two thousand five, he was appointed Cardinal Bishop of Velletri–Segni, further solidifying his influence within the Catholic hierarchy.

As a prominent advisor to Pope John Paul II, Arinze was recognized as a papabile during the two thousand five Papal conclave. His contributions to the Church are significant, and he is regarded as the only surviving council father among the few who represented Nigeria at the Second Vatican Council.
