Franciszek Kleeberg

Franciszek Kleeberg, born on February first, eighteen eighty-eight, was a distinguished Polish general whose military career spanned several pivotal moments in European history. Initially serving in the Austro-Hungarian Army, he later joined the Polish Legions during World War I, contributing to the fight for Polish independence and subsequently serving in the Polish Army.

During the tumultuous period of the German Invasion of Poland, Kleeberg commanded the Independent Operational Group Polesie, known in Polish as Samodzielna Grupa Operacyjna 'Polesie'. His leadership was marked by an impressive record; he never lost a battle throughout the invasion, showcasing his strategic prowess and dedication to his troops.

Despite his successes, Kleeberg faced overwhelming odds and was ultimately forced to surrender when his forces ran out of ammunition. Following his capture, he was imprisoned in Oflag IV-B Koenigstein, where he remained until his death in a Dresden hospital on April fifth, nineteen forty-one. His legacy endures, and he was laid to rest in the same city, remembered as a symbol of Polish resilience and military honor.
