Frank Drake

Initially embarking on his journey as a radio astronomer, he dedicated his early work to studying the planets within our Solar System and later delved into the fascinating realm of pulsars.

Drake's passion for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) took flight in nineteen sixty with Project Ozma, a pioneering effort aimed at establishing communication with potential extraterrestrial civilizations. His groundbreaking work led to the formulation of the Drake equation, a mathematical framework designed to estimate the number of intelligent lifeforms that might exist in our galaxy.

In collaboration with renowned astronomer Carl Sagan, Drake played a pivotal role in the design of the Pioneer plaque, which became the first physical message sent beyond our Solar System.
