Frank Iacobucci, born on January twenty-ninth, nineteen thirty-seven, is a distinguished former Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, serving from nineteen ninety-one until his retirement in two thousand four. He holds the notable distinction of being the first Italian-Canadian judge to sit on the court, as well as the first to have been born, raised, and educated in British Columbia.
Before ascending to the Supreme Court, Iacobucci had an illustrious career in academia and public service. He spent eighteen years as a tenured professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where he also served as dean starting in nineteen seventy-nine. His expertise in constitutional law was further recognized during his tenure as Deputy Attorney General of Canada from nineteen eighty-five to nineteen eighty-eight, where he played a pivotal role in the Meech Lake Accord negotiations.
In nineteen eighty-eight, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, marking another significant milestone in his career. Iacobucci's background as a private corporate lawyer has established him as an expert in business and tax law, and he currently contributes his extensive knowledge as senior counsel at the business law firm Torys LLP.
