Frank J. Tipler

Frank J. Tipler, born on February 1, 1947, is a distinguished American mathematical physicist and cosmologist. He holds a joint appointment in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics at Tulane University, where he has made significant contributions to the fields of theoretical physics and mathematics.

Tipler is perhaps best known for his exploration of the Omega Point, a concept he developed from the religious ideas of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. He posits that this mechanism could facilitate the resurrection of the dead, a theory that has sparked both interest and controversy within the scientific community.

In addition to his work on the Omega Point, Tipler has proposed the concept of the Tipler cylinder, a theoretical time machine that has captured the imagination of many. However, his theories have not been without criticism; notable cosmologist George Ellis has labeled some of Tipler's ideas as pseudoscience, highlighting the contentious nature of his work.
