His earlier accolades include multiple victories as Mr. Universe in nineteen sixty-five, nineteen sixty-eight, nineteen seventy, nineteen seventy-one, and nineteen seventy-two, as well as Mr. America in nineteen sixty-six, nineteen sixty-seven, and nineteen sixty-eight.

Competing typically at a bodyweight of less than two hundred pounds, Zane consistently outperformed larger competitors, showcasing a physique that is often regarded as one of the finest in bodybuilding history.
