Franklin Carmichael

Franklin Carmichael, born on May fourth, nineteen hundred, was a distinguished Canadian painter and a pivotal member of the renowned Group of Seven. His artistic journey was marked by a profound connection to the Ontario landscapes, which he masterfully captured through his primary medium of watercolours. However, his versatility extended beyond this, as he also employed oil paints, charcoal, and various other media to express his unique vision.

In addition to his painting, Carmichael showcased his creative talents as a designer and illustrator. He contributed to the visual arts by crafting promotional brochures, advertisements for newspapers and magazines, and even designing books. This multifaceted approach to art allowed him to reach a broader audience and leave a lasting impact on the Canadian art scene.

As the youngest original member of the Group of Seven, Carmichael often found himself on the periphery of the group's social dynamics. Despite this, his artistic contributions were significant and comparable in style and approach to those of his peers. In the later years of his life, Carmichael dedicated himself to education, teaching in the Graphic Design and Commercial Art Department at the Ontario College of Art, which is now known as the Ontario College of Art & Design University. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of artists.
