Škugor achieved a remarkable career-high ATP doubles ranking of World No. seventeen on April twenty-second, two thousand nineteen. Renowned for his powerful serve, which reached speeds of up to two hundred thirty kilometers per hour (one hundred forty miles per hour), he also possessed formidable groundstrokes that contributed to his success.

In two thousand nineteen, Škugor celebrated a significant milestone by winning the Monte-Carlo Masters alongside fellow Croatian Nikola Mektić. Their partnership proved fruitful, as they also reached the doubles semifinals at the prestigious Wimbledon Championships in two thousand seventeen and again in two thousand eighteen, this time with British player Dominic Inglot.

In November two thousand nineteen, following the departure of Željko Krajan, Škugor took on the role of captain for the Croatia Davis Cup team during the Davis Cup competition.
