Franz Anton Maulbertsch

Franz Anton Maulbertsch, born on June seventh, seventeen twenty-four in Langenargen, was a distinguished Austrian painter and engraver, celebrated as one of the foremost figures of Rococo painting in the German and Hungarian regions.

His artistic journey began at the Academy of Vienna, where he honed his skills under the influence of notable artists such as Paul Troger and the Venetian masters Piazzetta and Giovanni Battista Pittoni. Maulbertsch's exposure to the frescoes of Sebastiano Ricci at Schönbrunn Palace further enriched his artistic repertoire, while his interactions with Giambattista Tiepolo, who was active in Würzburg from seventeen fifty, left a lasting impact on his work.

Renowned for his frescoes, Maulbertsch received numerous commissions, primarily focused on ecclesiastical themes. His artistic contributions can be seen in churches across Bicske, Kalocsa, and Vienna, including the Michaelerkirche and Piaristenkirche Maria Treu. He also adorned the Porta Coeli in Moravia, the Kroměříž Archbishop's Palace, and the villa of Halbturn.

One of his most notable achievements was the massive ceiling of the Philosophical Hall at the Strahov monastery in Prague, which he completed in just six months in seventeen ninety-four. Additionally, he created a portrait of Narcissus of Jerusalem, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
