Franz Ritter von Epp

Franz Ritter von Epp, born on October sixteenth, eighteen sixty-eight, was a prominent German general and politician whose career began in the Bavarian Army. His military prowess during wartime earned him a knighthood in nineteen sixteen, marking the beginning of a significant trajectory in both military and political spheres.

Following the conclusion of World War I and the subsequent dissolution of the German Empire, Epp took on the role of a commanding officer in the Freikorps and the Reichswehr. His leadership of the Freikorps Epp was marked by a controversial legacy, as his unit was implicated in numerous atrocities during the suppression of the Bavarian Soviet Republic.

In the political arena, Epp was initially a member of the Bavarian People's Party before aligning himself with the Nazi Party in nineteen twenty-eight. His political career flourished as he was elected to the German parliament, or Reichstag, a position he maintained until the collapse of Nazi Germany.

During his tenure, Epp served as the Reichskommissar and later as the Reichsstatthalter for Bavaria, as well as a Reichsleiter of the Nazi Party. His earlier military experiences included participation in the Herero and Nama genocide, and as governor of Bavaria, he bore significant responsibility for the tragic fate of the Bavarian Jewish and Roma populations.
