Freddy Maertens

Freddy Maertens, born on February 13, 1952, is a distinguished Belgian former professional racing cyclist renowned for his remarkable achievements on the road. He is celebrated for being a two-time world road race champion, a title that underscores his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

Throughout his career, Maertens experienced a dramatic fluctuation in performance, oscillating between seasons where he triumphed in over fifty races to periods of struggle where victories were scarce. One of the highlights of Maertens' career occurred between the 1976 Tour de France and the 1977 Giro d'Italia, where he astonishingly won twenty-eight out of sixty Grand Tour stages he entered.
