Frederick served as the regent of the Kingdom of Sicily from the year one thousand two hundred ninety-one until one thousand two hundred ninety-five. Following this period, he ascended to the throne as King of Sicily, a position he held from one thousand two hundred ninety-five until his death. His reign was characterized by his involvement in the War of the Sicilian Vespers, where he fought valiantly on behalf of his father and brothers, Alfonso III and James II.

His kingship was solidified by the Peace of Caltabellotta in one thousand three hundred two, which confirmed his status as king.
