Fredrik Barth

Fredrik Barth, born on December twenty-second, nineteen twenty-eight, was a distinguished Norwegian social anthropologist renowned for his formalist perspective in ethnographic studies. His scholarly contributions have significantly shaped the field of anthropology, making him a prominent figure in academic circles.

Throughout his illustrious career, Barth held esteemed professorships at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Oslo and the University of Bergen, where he was instrumental in founding the Department of Social Anthropology. His academic journey also took him to Emory University and Harvard University, culminating in his role as a professor in the Department of Anthropology at Boston University.
