Fredy Henkyer Montero Muñoz, born on July 26, 1987, is a distinguished Colombian professional footballer who currently plays as a forward for Real Cartagena. Renowned for his scoring prowess, Montero was the all-time top scorer for the Seattle Sounders until 2024, amassing seventy-nine goals during his two stints with the club from 2009 to 2012 and again from 2021 to 2023.

Montero's football journey began at the tender age of six when he joined the youth ranks of Deportivo Cali. He made his professional debut at eighteen in 2005, initially being loaned to Academia for a season. His career took off during his loan to Atlético Huila, where he emerged as the league's top scorer in the 2007 Torneo Apertura. Upon returning to Deportivo Cali, he achieved the remarkable feat of being the league's top scorer again in the 2008 Torneo Finalización.

In 2009, Montero joined the Major League Soccer expansion team Seattle Sounders on loan, quickly making a name for himself as the Newcomer of the Year and leading the team in goals. His impressive performance led to a permanent transfer in 2010, where he became a Designated Player and a permanent resident of the United States. Over four seasons with the Sounders, he earned two selections to the MLS All-Star squad.

Montero's career also includes significant stints in Portugal with Sporting CP, where he scored forty-three goals across all competitions from 2013 to 2016 and again from 2018 to 2019. Additionally, he has played for Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada and Tianjin TEDA in China. Montero has represented the Colombia national team five times, scoring once in an unofficial match against Catalonia.
