Fulton J. Sheen

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Fulton J. Sheen

Fulton J. Sheen, born on May eighth, nineteen ninety-five, was a prominent American Catholic prelate who made significant contributions to the Church and society through his roles as a television presenter, theologian, and radio personality. He served as the Bishop of Rochester from nineteen sixty-six to nineteen sixty-nine, but his influence extended far beyond this position. Known for his captivating preaching style, Sheen became a household name through his work on both radio and television.

Ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, in nineteen nineteen, Sheen quickly distinguished himself as a theologian, earning the prestigious Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in nineteen twenty-three. His academic career included teaching theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and serving as a parish priest. In nineteen fifty-one, he was appointed auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of New York, a role he held until his elevation to Bishop of Rochester.

For two decades, Sheen hosted the popular night-time radio program The Catholic Hour on NBC, which aired from nineteen thirty to nineteen fifty. He transitioned to television with the acclaimed series Life Is Worth Living from nineteen fifty-two to nineteen fifty-seven, followed by The Fulton Sheen Program from nineteen sixty-one to nineteen sixty-eight. His engaging presentations earned him an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality and recognition on the cover of Time magazine, solidifying his status as one of the first televangelists.

In two thousand two, the cause for Sheen's canonization was officially opened, and in June two thousand twelve, Pope Benedict XVI recognized his life of 'heroic virtue.' On July fifth, two thousand nineteen, Pope Francis approved a reputed miracle attributed to Sheen's intercession, paving the way for his beatification. Although his scheduled beatification in Peoria on December twenty-first, two thousand nineteen was postponed due to concerns regarding a priest's past assignment, the Diocese of Peoria maintained that Sheen had been exonerated. As of February two thousand twenty-six, his beatification process is set to continue, with expectations for a date in the near future.
