Fusako Shigenobu

Fusako Shigenobu, born on September twenty-eighth, nineteen forty-five, is a prominent Japanese communist activist and writer, best known as the founder and leader of the now-disbanded militant group, the Japanese Red Army (JRA). Her journey into revolutionary activism began during her time at Meiji University in Tokyo, where she became involved in New Left movements.

In nineteen sixty-nine, Shigenobu joined the Red Army Faction (RAF), a group advocating for immediate armed revolution against the governments of the United States and Japan. Rising through the ranks, she became a senior leader and played a crucial role in establishing the International Relations Bureau for the organization.

The following year, she co-founded the JRA as an offshoot of the RAF, relocating to the Middle East to initiate a world revolution and support the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation, collaborating with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Throughout the seventies and eighties, the JRA was involved in numerous violent incidents, including bombings and hijackings, while Shigenobu gained international recognition as the group's spokesperson.

Despite her initial support for armed resistance, Shigenobu later expressed remorse for her militant past, shifting her focus towards grassroots support for the Palestinian people. During her years in hiding and subsequent imprisonment, she authored ten books, including poetry.

In two thousand, Shigenobu was arrested after years of evasion, facing trial for passport forgery and alleged conspiracy related to a hostage-taking attempt at the French Embassy in The Hague in nineteen seventy-four. She was sentenced to twenty years in prison in two thousand six and was released in two thousand twenty-two.
