Gabe Logan Newell, born on November 3, 1962, is a prominent American video game developer and businessman, widely recognized for his significant contributions to the gaming industry. As the co-founder, president, and majority owner of Valve Corporation, Newell has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of video gaming.

Raised in Colorado and later in Davis, California, Newell's journey into technology began at Harvard University in the early 1980s. However, he left his studies to join Microsoft, where he was instrumental in developing the initial versions of the Windows operating system. In 1996, he took a bold step by leaving Microsoft alongside Mike Harrington to establish Valve, which would soon become a powerhouse in the gaming world with the release of their groundbreaking game, Half-Life, in 1998.
