Gabriel Bethlen, born in the year 1580, was a prominent politician who played a significant role in the history of Transylvania. His reign as Prince of Transylvania spanned from 1613 to 1629, during which he established himself as a formidable leader.
In addition to his princely duties, Bethlen held the title of Duke of Opole from 1622 to 1625. His ambitions extended beyond Transylvania, as he was elected King of Hungary from 1620 to 1621, although he never fully controlled the entire kingdom.
Supported by the Ottomans, Bethlen led his Calvinist principality in a determined struggle against the Habsburgs and their Catholic allies. His leadership during this tumultuous period was marked by both political acumen and military strategy, as he sought to assert the independence and influence of his realm.
