Gabriel Narutowicz, born on March seventeenth, eighteen sixty-five, was a distinguished Polish engineer and politician who made history as the first president of Poland. His presidency began on December eleventh, nineteen twenty-two, but tragically ended just five days later when he was assassinated. Narutowicz's political career included significant roles such as the minister of public works from nineteen twenty to nineteen twenty-two and a brief tenure as the minister of foreign affairs in nineteen twenty-two.

Born into a noble family with a deep sense of patriotism, Narutowicz pursued his education at the Saint Petersburg Imperial University before moving to Zurich Polytechnic, where he completed his studies in Switzerland. As a pioneer in electrification, he directed the construction of some of the first hydroelectric power plants in Europe, including those in Monthey, Mühleberg, and Andelsbuch. His expertise led to his appointment as a professor of hydroelectric and water engineering in Zurich in nineteen oh seven.

In the aftermath of World War I, Narutowicz was invited by Polish authorities to contribute to reconstruction efforts. He became the minister of public works in Władysław Grabski’s government in June nineteen twenty. His adept handling of the Polish delegation at the Genoa Conference earned him a position as the minister of foreign affairs in Artur Śliwiński's cabinet.
