Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows, born on March first, eighteen thirty-eight, was an Italian seminarian of the Passionist order. Coming from a professional family, he made the profound decision to abandon his secular ambitions in pursuit of a spiritual life within the Passionist congregation.
His time in the monastery, while not marked by extraordinary events, was characterized by a strict adherence to the congregation's rules. Gabriel was particularly renowned for his deep devotion to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary, which became a defining aspect of his spiritual journey.
Tragically, Gabriel's life was cut short when he succumbed to tuberculosis at the tender age of twenty-three. He passed away in Isola del Gran Sasso, located in the province of Teramo, leaving behind a legacy of faith and devotion.
In recognition of his virtuous life and dedication, Gabriel was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in nineteen twenty, solidifying his place in the annals of Catholic history.
