Gao Yaojie

Gao Yaojie, born on December nineteenth, nineteen twenty-seven, was a prominent Chinese gynecologist and a passionate AIDS activist. Based in Zhengzhou, Henan, she dedicated her life to women's health and the fight against the AIDS epidemic in China. Her commitment to these causes earned her recognition from the United Nations and various Western organizations, highlighting her significant contributions to public health.

Despite her accolades, Gao faced considerable challenges, including periods of house arrest due to her outspoken views on the transmission and severity of AIDS in the People's Republic of China. Her split with the Chinese authorities marked a turning point in her career, as it limited her ability to continue her vital work within the country.

In two thousand nine, seeking greater freedom to advocate for AIDS awareness and women's health, Gao made the courageous decision to leave China for the United States. She settled in Manhattan, New York, where she continued her activism and academic pursuits until her passing on December tenth, two thousand twenty-three.
