Gary Hooper, born on January 26, 1988, is an accomplished English footballer currently playing as a forward for Maldon & Tiptree. His football journey began at Grays Athletic, a non-League club, where he made a significant impact from 2003. During his time there, he celebrated victories in the 2004–05 Conference South and lifted the FA Trophy twice in 2005 and 2006.
In 2006, Hooper made a move to Championship side Southend United on a free transfer. His tenure there included loan spells at Leyton Orient and Hereford United, which helped him gain valuable experience. In 2008, he transferred to Scunthorpe United for a fee of one hundred seventy-five thousand pounds, where he continued to hone his skills before making a notable switch to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League for two million four hundred thousand pounds.
Hooper's time at Celtic was marked by remarkable success, as he emerged as the club's top scorer in his debut season, netting twenty-two goals across all competitions. He also played a pivotal role in securing the 2011 Scottish Cup. His scoring prowess is unparalleled, having found the back of the net in various prestigious tournaments, including the Premier League, Championship, and UEFA competitions, making him the first player to achieve such a feat.
Despite being born in England, Hooper has not represented the national team at any level. In March 2011, there were discussions about his eligibility to play for Scotland, but this was later ruled out. He was considered for England duty and received a call-up to the under-21 squad for a friendly, although an injury prevented his participation. He was also included in the provisional squad for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship but ultimately did not attend the tournament.
