Gary Kirsten, born on November twenty-third, nineteen sixty-seven, is a distinguished South African cricket coach and former cricketer. He was a vital member of the South African team that clinched the ICC KnockOut Trophy in nineteen ninety-eight. Over his career, Kirsten played one hundred and one Test matches and one hundred and eighty-five One Day Internationals for South Africa from nineteen ninety-three to two thousand four, primarily as an opening batsman.

In addition to his own achievements, Kirsten comes from a cricketing family; his half-brother Peter also played provincial cricket for Western Province and represented South Africa, notably during the nineteen ninety-two Cricket World Cup.

Transitioning from player to coach, Kirsten led the Indian cricket team from two thousand eight to two thousand eleven, culminating in their victory at the two thousand eleven Cricket World Cup. He took on the role of head coach for the South African cricket team in June two thousand eleven, stepping down in August two thousand thirteen. In a brief stint in two thousand twenty-four, he also coached the Pakistan national cricket team.

Most recently, in February two thousand twenty-six, Kirsten joined the Namibia national cricket team as a consultant for their ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign, where he provided strategic insights tailored to Indian playing conditions.
