Gary Kulesha

Gary Kulesha, born on August 22, 1954, is a distinguished Canadian composer, pianist, conductor, and music educator. His contributions to the music world are profound, particularly through his role as Composer Advisor to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1995. Kulesha's expertise has also been recognized during his tenure as Composer-in-Residence with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony from nineteen eighty-eight to nineteen ninety-two and with the Canadian Opera Company from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-five.

In two thousand two, he was honored with the National Arts Centre Orchestra Composer Award, a testament to his significant impact on the Canadian music scene. Beyond his compositions, Kulesha is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians. He currently teaches at the University of Toronto, where he has mentored notable students such as Vincent Ho, Anna Höstman, Abigail Richardson-Schulte, Bekah Simms, and Andrew Staniland.

In recognition of his contributions to the arts, Kulesha was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in two thousand twenty-three, solidifying his legacy as a leading figure in Canadian music.
