Gédéon Ouimet

Gédéon Ouimet, born on June second, eighteen twenty-three, was a prominent French-Canadian politician and lawyer. His early life unfolded in what is now part of Laval, Quebec, where he would later rise to significant political prominence.

Ouimet served as the second premier of Quebec from February twenty-six, eighteen seventy-three, until September twenty-two, eighteen seventy-four. His tenure was marked by challenges, including the Tanneries scandal, which ultimately led to his resignation as the leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec in eighteen seventy-four.

In eighteen ninety-five, he was appointed to the Legislative Council of Quebec, further solidifying his influence in the province's political landscape. Gédéon Ouimet passed away in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, in nineteen oh-five, leaving behind a legacy that would be honored in various ways.

In recognition of his contributions, the town of Grandmont was renamed Saint-Gédéon, and a bridge on Highway fifteen, which spans the Rivière des Mille Îles, was dedicated to him, connecting Laval to the northern shore, now known as Boisbriand.
