Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Geir Ivarsøy

Geir Ivarsøy, born on June twenty-seventh, nineteen fifty-seven, was a prominent computer scientist and programmer who played a pivotal role in the development of web browsing technology. He began his journey in the tech world as part of a research group at the Norwegian state phone company, now known as Telenor, where he collaborated with Jon von Tetzchner to create MultiTorg Opera in nineteen ninety-four.

In nineteen ninety-five, Ivarsøy and Tetzchner took a significant step by acquiring the rights to their software and founding Opera Software. This venture marked the beginning of a new era in web browsing, as Opera quickly gained popularity and established itself as a formidable competitor in the market. Under Ivarsøy's leadership, the company expanded its workforce to over five hundred employees, solidifying its presence in Oslo.

Despite announcing his intention to resign from the board of Opera Software in January two thousand four, Ivarsøy remained an active contributor to the company. His commitment to the organization continued, and in June two thousand five, he was elected to the Nomination Committee, further demonstrating his dedication to the success of Opera.

Tragically, Geir Ivarsøy passed away in March two thousand six after a battle with cancer. His legacy endures, as Opera distributions starting with Version nine honor his memory with a tribute on their opera:about page, ensuring that his contributions to the world of technology are never forgotten.
