Geoffrey Oryema

Geoffrey Oryema, born on April sixteenth, nineteen fifty-three, is a celebrated Ugandan musician whose life and career have been profoundly shaped by the tumultuous political landscape of his homeland.

In nineteen seventy-seven, tragedy struck when his father, Erinayo Wilson Oryema, a cabinet minister under Idi Amin's regime, was murdered. This devastating event forced Geoffrey into exile, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

At the age of twenty-four, amidst the oppressive atmosphere of Amin's rule, Oryema was smuggled out of Uganda in the trunk of a car, a harrowing escape that would lead him to a new life and career abroad.
