George Genereux, born on March first, nineteen thirty-five, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was a remarkable Canadian athlete known for his exceptional skills in sport shooting. He was the son of Catherine Mary Devine, a nurse from Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Arthur George Genereux. Notably, he was the maternal uncle of Academy Award-winning actor Brendan Fraser.
While still a student at Nutana Collegiate, Genereux achieved a significant milestone by winning the gold medal in Olympic Trap at the nineteen fifty-two Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland. This victory made him Canada's youngest Olympic champion, a record that remained unbroken until two thousand sixteen.
In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Genereux was awarded the prestigious Lou Marsh Trophy in nineteen fifty-two. His legacy in sports was further solidified with his induction into several halls of fame, including Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, and the Trapshooting Hall of Fame.
Beyond his athletic prowess, Genereux pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan before studying medicine at McGill University. He passed away in Saskatoon on April tenth, nineteen eighty-nine, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in both sports and medicine.
