George Tillman Jr.

George Tillman Jr., born on January 26, 1969, is a prominent American filmmaker known for his impactful contributions to cinema. He gained recognition as the director of the critically acclaimed films Soul Food in nineteen ninety-seven and Men of Honor in two thousand. His work extends beyond directing, as he also produced the television series Soul Food: The Series and played a significant role in the Barbershop film franchise, which includes Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Beauty Shop, and Barbershop: The Next Cut.

In two thousand nine, Tillman directed the biopic Notorious, which chronicles the life of the legendary Brooklyn-born rapper The Notorious B.I.G. His directorial prowess continued to shine with the release of The Hate U Give in two thousand eighteen, a drama that addresses pressing social issues.

Throughout his career, Tillman has received several accolades, including a nomination for the Black Film Award for Best Director for Soul Food. He was also nominated for the Black Reel Award for both Best Director and Best Screenplay for Notorious.
