Georges Bugnet

Georges Bugnet, born on February twenty-third, eighteen seventy-nine, was a multifaceted French Canadian writer and a passionate plant hybridiser. His literary contributions spanned poetry, stories, articles, plays, and novels, showcasing his diverse talents. Among his works, the novel 'La Forêt', published in nineteen thirty-five, stands out as his most celebrated piece.

Initially, Bugnet published his first two novels, 'Les Lys de sang' in nineteen twenty-two and 'Nipsya' in nineteen twenty-four, under the pseudonym Henri Doutremont. This choice allowed him to explore different themes and styles, ultimately enriching the Canadian literary landscape.

In addition to his literary pursuits, Bugnet was an avid animal breeder and horticulturist. He is particularly known for introducing the rose cultivar 'Thérèse Bugnet', named in honor of his sister, which reflects his deep connection to both family and nature.

His contributions to literature and horticulture were recognized in nineteen seventy-eight when he received an honorary degree from the University of Alberta, solidifying his legacy as a significant figure in Canadian culture.
