Georges Miez

Georges Miez, born on October second, nineteen oh four, was a distinguished Swiss artistic gymnast whose remarkable career spanned over a decade. Competing in the Summer Olympics of nineteen twenty-four, nineteen twenty-eight, nineteen thirty-two, and nineteen thirty-six, Miez achieved an impressive tally of four gold, three silver, and one bronze medal, establishing himself as one of the sport's greats.

At the nineteen twenty-eight Games, Miez emerged as the most successful athlete, while in nineteen thirty-two, he stood out as Switzerland's sole medalist amidst the economic turmoil that prevented the country from sending an official team. His dedication to the sport was evident as he volunteered to compete independently, even while managing personal loss, as he returned the body of his brother from the United States.

Between the Olympics, Miez served in the Swiss army and took on coaching roles in the Netherlands and Chiasso. He also contributed to the sportswear industry by designing innovative gymnastic trousers. His prowess extended beyond the Olympics, as he secured three medals at the nineteen thirty-four World Championships.

After retiring from competitive gymnastics following the nineteen thirty-six Games, Miez transitioned into coaching at a national level and took on a role with the Red Cross. In the post-World War II era, he founded several private schools, authored books on sports medicine, and even ventured into coaching tennis. Miez spent his later years in Lugano, where he passed away from a stroke at the age of ninety-four.
