Georges Parent

Georges Parent, born on December fifteenth, eighteen seventy-nine in Quebec City, was a prominent Canadian lawyer and politician. He was the son of Simon-Napoléon Parent, who notably served as Premier of Quebec and Mayor of Quebec City. Following in his father's footsteps, Georges pursued a career in law, studying at Université Laval and gaining admission to the Bar of Quebec in nineteen oh four.

At the young age of twenty-five, Parent made his mark in Canadian politics by being elected as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Montmorency during the nineteen oh four federal election. His early political career was marked by his appointment by Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier to second the motion on the Speech from the Throne. Although he was re-elected in nineteen oh eight, he faced defeat in the nineteen eleven election.

After his initial term, Parent returned to his legal practice and engaged in various business ventures, eventually becoming president of Citadel Brick Ltd., Equitable Enterprises, and Wolfesfield Ltd. He also held the position of vice-president at Donnacona Paper Company and served as a director for several firms, including the publisher of Le Soleil newspaper.

Parent's political journey resumed in the nineteen seventeen federal election when he was elected as a Laurier-Liberal representing Quebec West. He served as an MP until June third, nineteen thirty, when he was appointed to the Senate of Canada by Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. On May ninth, nineteen forty, he was named Speaker of the Senate, a role he held until his passing on December fourteenth, nineteen forty-two.
