Geraint Thomas

Geraint Thomas, born on May 25, 1986, is a distinguished Welsh former professional racing cyclist who made his mark in both track and road cycling. He rode for the UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers, representing Wales and Great Britain with pride. Thomas is celebrated for his remarkable achievements, becoming one of the few cyclists in modern history to excel in both disciplines, with significant victories in the velodrome and on the road.

His early career was defined by his prowess in track cycling, where he specialized in the team pursuit. Thomas clinched three World Championships in 2007, 2008, and 2012, and earned Olympic gold medals in both 2008 and 2012. Transitioning to road cycling, he secured his first notable win at the 2004 Paris–Roubaix Juniors, followed by a senior victory at the 2010 British National Road Race Championships.

Focusing solely on road cycling, Thomas achieved success in various one-day races, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games road race and the 2015 E3 Harelbeke. His stage race accomplishments are equally impressive, with victories at the 2016 Paris–Nice, the 2017 Tour of the Alps, and the 2018 Critérium du Dauphiné. Notably, he became the first Welshman to win the Tour de France in 2018, solidifying his status in cycling history.

In addition to his Tour de France triumph, Thomas has consistently demonstrated his Grand Tour capabilities, finishing as a runner-up in the 2019 Tour de France and achieving podium finishes in the 2022 Tour de Suisse and the 2023 Giro d'Italia.
