Gérard-Joseph Deschamps, born on July 4, 1929, in Eastview, Frontenac County, Ontario, was a distinguished Canadian Roman Catholic prelate. His journey in the priesthood began with his ordination in 1954, marking the start of a lifelong commitment to faith and service.
In 1966, Deschamps took on the significant role of Bishop of Daru in Papua New Guinea, where he served diligently for over three decades. His leadership and dedication to the community were evident throughout his tenure, which lasted until 1999.
Following his time in Daru, he became the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bereina, continuing his mission work and pastoral care until his resignation in 2002. Deschamps passed away on February 25, 2022, at the age of ninety-two, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and service to the Catholic Church.
