Gerry Weiner

Gerry Weiner, born on June twenty-sixth, nineteen thirty-three, is a distinguished Canadian politician and pharmacist. He pursued his education at McGill University and the Université de Montréal, which laid the foundation for his dual career in public service and healthcare. Weiner's political journey began at the local level, where he served as the mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, starting in nineteen eighty-two.

In nineteen eighty-four, Weiner made a significant leap into federal politics as a Progressive Conservative candidate, securing a seat in the House of Commons for Dollard during the Tory landslide that propelled Brian Mulroney to power. His parliamentary career flourished as he served as a parliamentary secretary before being appointed Minister of State for Immigration. By nineteen eighty-eight, he transitioned to the role of Minister of State for Multiculturalism, a position he held until nineteen ninety-one.

Weiner was re-elected in the nineteen eighty-eight election for the newly established riding of Pierrefonds—Dollard. His political influence continued to grow as he became Secretary of State for Canada in nineteen eighty-nine and later served as Minister of Multiculturalism and Citizenship from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-three, under both Mulroney and Kim Campbell. However, his tenure in federal politics concluded with the defeat of the Campbell government in the nineteen ninety-three election.

Following his federal career, Weiner shifted to provincial politics, taking on the role of president of the Equality Party, which championed the rights of anglophones in Quebec. In nineteen ninety-eight, he was elected to the Montreal city council as a member of the Vision Montreal party, supporting Mayor Pierre Bourque and contributing to the city's executive committee.

Since two thousand seventeen, Weiner has returned to the private sector as the Executive Director at APS Global Partners Inc., a consulting firm focused on the Canadian Start-Up Visa program. He remains active in his profession as a pharmacist in Montreal and holds several leadership positions, including president of the board of directors for The Centre For Literacy of Quebec and national vice-president of the Friends of Haifa University.
