Géza I of Hungary

Géza I of Hungary, born in the year one thousand forty, was a significant political figure who ascended to the throne in one thousand seventy-four. As the eldest son of King Béla I, he was originally baptized as Magnus. His early life was marked by political turmoil, as he was forced to leave Hungary when his cousin Solomon, with German support, claimed the crown following the death of their father in one thousand sixty-three.

After a period of exile, Géza returned to Hungary with the aid of Polish forces. In early one thousand sixty-four, he and his brother Ladislaus entered into a treaty with Solomon, acknowledging his rule while securing their father's former duchy, which represented one-third of the Kingdom of Hungary. This agreement allowed for a temporary peace among the royal family.

Despite initial cooperation, tensions escalated between Géza and Solomon by one thousand seventy-one. The conflict reached a peak in February one thousand seventy-four when Solomon invaded Géza's duchy, resulting in a defeat for Géza. However, he turned the tide in the decisive battle of Mogyoród on the fourteenth of March, one thousand seventy-four, ultimately claiming the throne for himself.

In the final months of his reign, Géza sought to negotiate peace with his dethroned cousin, reflecting a desire for stability in the kingdom. Unfortunately, he passed away while his sons were still young, leading to his brother Ladislaus succeeding him on the throne.
