Ghazar Parpetsi

Ghazar Parpetsi, a distinguished historian of the fifth to sixth century, played a pivotal role in documenting the rich tapestry of Armenian history. His close association with the influential Mamikonian noble family provided him with unique insights and access to significant events of his time.

His most notable work is a comprehensive history of Armenia, penned during the twilight of the fifth century or the dawn of the sixth century. This historical account meticulously chronicles the events from three hundred eighty-seven to four hundred eighty-five, beginning with the division of Armenia between the Byzantine and Sasanian empires and culminating in the appointment of Vahan Mamikonian, a close friend and patron of Ghazar, as marzpan, or governor, of Sasanian-controlled Armenia.
