Gil Young-ah

Gil Young-ah, born on April eleventh, nineteen seventy in Ansan, South Korea, is a distinguished former badminton player who made her mark on the international stage. She competed in the Summer Olympics, where her remarkable skills earned her a bronze medal in women's doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Games alongside her partner Shim Eun-jung.

Her Olympic journey continued with even greater success at the Atlanta Olympics in nineteen ninety-six, where she clinched a gold medal in mixed doubles with Kim Dong-moon and secured a silver medal in women's doubles with Jang Hye-ock. These achievements solidified her status as one of South Korea's top badminton athletes.

After retiring from competitive play following the 1996 Olympics, Gil transitioned into coaching, taking on the role of assistant coach for the Samsung Electro-Mechanics badminton team. In two thousand eleven, she broke new ground by becoming the first woman to lead a professional badminton team in Korea as the head coach of the Samsung Electromechanics Women's Badminton Team.

In late two thousand fifteen, following the departure of Kim Moon-soo, Gil was appointed head coach of the combined men's and women's teams, further showcasing her leadership in the sport. Beyond her coaching career, Gil is also a proud mother of two children who are both elite badminton players, with her son Kim Won-ho representing the national team and her daughter Kim Ah-young playing for a prestigious high school team in Gyeonggi-do.
