Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle

Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle, born on August twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-four, is a distinguished former professional road racing cyclist from France, renowned for his prowess in one-day classic races. His career spanned from nineteen seventy-seven to nineteen ninety-five, during which he emerged as one of the finest French cyclists of his generation, alongside legends like Bernard Hinault and Laurent Fignon.

Hailing from Lembeye, Duclos-Lassalle became particularly known for his tenacity in the Paris–Roubaix race. Despite facing setbacks, including second-place finishes behind Francesco Moser in nineteen eighty and Hennie Kuiper in nineteen eighty-three, he ultimately claimed victory in nineteen ninety, crossing the finish line at the Roubaix Velodrome a full twenty seconds ahead of German cyclist Olaf Ludwig at the age of thirty-seven.

The following year, Duclos-Lassalle showcased his competitive spirit once more, triumphing in a nail-biting finish against Italian Franco Ballerini, who mistakenly celebrated his victory only to discover he had been edged out by Duclos-Lassalle. While not a climber, he excelled in one-week races, demonstrating his versatility in events like Paris–Nice and the Critérium du Midi Libre.

In recognition of his contributions to the sport, a cobbled secteur used in Paris–Roubaix, located between Wallers and Hélesmes, was officially named
