Giorgia Meloni

Giorgia Meloni, born on January fifteenth, nineteen seventy-seven, is a prominent Italian politician and journalist who has made history as the first woman to serve as Prime Minister of Italy since October twenty twenty-two. Leading the third-longest government in the Italian Republic, she has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies since two thousand six and has presided over the right-wing to far-right party Brothers of Italy (FdI) since two thousand fourteen.

Her political journey began in nineteen ninety-two when she joined the Youth Front, the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), a neo-fascist party. Meloni later became the national leader of Student Action, the student movement of the National Alliance (AN), which succeeded the MSI in nineteen ninety-five. She served as a councillor for the province of Rome from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand two and was appointed Minister for Youth Policies in the fourth Berlusconi government from two thousand eight to two thousand eleven.

In two thousand twelve, Meloni co-founded FdI, which is recognized as the legal successor to AN, and became its president in two thousand fourteen. Despite facing setbacks in the European Parliament election and the Rome municipal election, she led FdI in opposition during the entire eighteenth legislature, gaining popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the fall of the Draghi government, FdI emerged victorious in the two thousand twenty-two general election.

A devout Catholic and conservative, Meloni advocates for traditional family values, opposing euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and same-sex parenting. She has been labeled xenophobic and Islamophobic by critics and has expressed Eurosceptic views while supporting NATO. Meloni has also shown a preference for improved relations with Russia prior to the invasion of Ukraine, which she condemned, pledging continued support for Ukraine.

In twenty twenty-four, Forbes recognized her as the third-most-powerful woman in the world, and she was included in Time magazine's list of the most influential people globally. Politico ranked her as the most powerful person in Europe in twenty twenty-five, solidifying her status as a significant figure in contemporary politics.
